Fashion Illustrations

I decided to do a few small fashion illustrations on some paper bags

I decided to do a few small fashion illustrations, mainly out of boredom, and also to document some of the ideas floating around in my head. Now, I'm not the best at people, especially unreferenced full body poses, so some of these really aren't the best. Bear with me. An elaborate, but austere Victorian style dressThis is the first one I did. It's a little austere, but still completely over the top with its frilliness. It looks a little like something a china doll would wear, or a Victorian girl, perhaps when she was in half mourning.

A yellow bubble dress, somewhat eclipsed by a foray of psychedelic swirlsI decided I was being wasteful by not using the whole paper bag, so after I drew this girl in a yellow bubble dress, I went crazy with psychedelic imagery. Probably a bit of overkill. A girl wearing a white and green ruffly dress, in a wheat fieldI was slightly different in my approach to this. I gave her a background of a nice wheat field. I realise this girl is out of whack, what can I say, it's not an easy pose to do. The dress is green and white, with polka dots on the last two tiers. The green isn't quite that vivid, and my drawing makes the fabric look sheer/shiny when it's not meant to be. Oh well.

I like how you included a background with the last drawing, it worked a lot better focusing the eye on the clothing instead of the psychedelic background of the second creation (although it was very nice to look at, it took away from me lookihg at the clothing first). As for the clothing themselves, I think they’re really nice! I would wear all three of your creations, no problem :]

And don’t worry about getting the figures right, that’ll come with practice (you do a lot better than me, I can’t draw to save my life). Besides, you do a good job of presenting the clothing anyway.

I saw your link over at the Threadbanger forums. I really love these (and the rest of your art). They capture not only the dresses but their spirits as well.
O, and I’ve been wanting to use colored pancil on brownish paper for a while now, after I saw some other artist’s work. I never thought to use paper bags, d’oh!
