Major embroidery project - more eyes

This piece is probably about 45cm square perhaps. It took three weeks.

I'm not sure where the idea came from, but I had to do a project that incorporated some kind of stitching for textiles at uni.

So I built on my Beth Gibbons embroidery into some crazy multilayered eye embroidery applique.

the full embroidery front It's not actually very easy to photograph or scan because it's not a perfect square.

I decided to play on the richness of patterned fabrics - brocades, silk charmeuses, burnout velvets and shimmering satins and silks, combined with the dazzling bejewelled effect of both stylised and more realistic eyes.

Close up of the peacock feathers - which of course, mimic eyes (I just wanted to sew them.) Yes, that is a docket. I embroidered paper on experimentally..bad idea, even if my teachers liked it. You can't have enough detail. Embroidered eyes on faux fur and snakeskin satin Hopefully you enjoy it more than my teachers did. The textiles teachers are really quite harsh, and one of them seemed to think I didn't display the necessary commitment even though I spent THREE WEEKS non stop doing this! I'm actually seriously considering transferring workshops - even though I love the work in textiles I'm really not sure I can keep on for another two and a half years with such critical and demanding teachers.

Oh well..I'm proud even if they aren't.

saw you on threadbanger and I had to give this another look over <3
The idea, in itself, is pure love. The only this I would do, perhaps to make it more ’finished’ looking, is add a few more pieces into the left side area. But just not too close to the middle face, you would still want it to stand out the most. I love love love this! I wouldn’t change anything at all, but maybe add a little more. you’re awesome!
just because one person doesn’t like what you do doesn’t mean that you should up and give up! I wouldn’t freak over what your teacher said :)
